Here's a comparison between two portastudios from the late 90's, one is analog and the other is digital. The MD8 records to MiniDisc and the MT8Xii takes cassette tapes. Both units are getting on to being 30 years old, but can they still be useful for a Dawless recording setup today?

Soa tão bem
Is it 100 volts or 120 volts
It’s 240 volts.
Any chance you could do a "how to" on this?
Yes, I’ve been planning on doing some slide tutorials for a while so will add that to my list.
I had 238 before, but I almost did not use it... I think I am not a talent like you.
Oh cool, what mixer did you use it with?
@@wehappyfewmusic No… I did not use any mixers. I was so strange 🤣
@@catleaderk must of been tricky. 😀😊
@@wehappyfewmusic Correct. But I still think the problem is not that machine, but my IQ... This is my video that can show you I really had 238: ua-cam.com/video/Al-w9curVdI/v-deo.htmlsi=rCo-OGkMHC0Tc8tv
Thanks for providing me your knowledge. I have never known the "tape delay". Thanks!!
You’re welcome and hope it was useful! 🙏
Your voice is sweet! Many thanks for your creative video!
Thanks for the positive feedback, it’s much appreciated!

Peace great vid as always . But honestly how’s the Tascam 488mkii video coming ? Thinking about selling mine because I can’t figure how to use it really hope you make this vid soon I know I’m not the only one who’d appreciate it
Hey man, I’m about halfway through it at the moment so hopefully be finished in the next couple of weeks? Hold off selling your 488mkii if possible, they’re great machines when you get up and running!
Okay bro I appreciate you soo much thanks again . I’ll definitely keep it !
Thanx, man. Cool tune, too.
Many thanks for watching!
Great video! Thanks for doing such a great job filming and documenting these two! I think there is a great deal of interest in MD and tape sound quality. The company’s really did a great job back then, quality was great even by todays standards
Thanks very much for watching and glad you enjoyed the video! It was a fun one to make and they are both well designed machines.
The factory cone sounds more authentic, if you ask me! Beard stuff is overpriced. 😊
Thanks for watching the video and quite a few people have preferred the original cone. Beard stuff is expensive but I got a great deal on this cone as it was 2nd hand, but hadn’t been used. 😊💰
How much was it? The guitar?
I have think the guitar is about £200 new, but I paid £50 on eBay (had to drive quite a way to collect it though).
Ps1 only has left and right out, so why 4 track cassette multitrack 4:56 oh ok
Thanks for getting to the end! Yeah, I wanted to add some live instruments too. 🎸
@wehappyfewmusic nice video, music 2000 is horizontal but music 1.0 was vertical
@@rustymixer2886 interesting, I wonder if they swapped it around to make it more like a regular DAW?

What tuning are you in
Hi, I’m in open D here.
Looks a very versatile and feature-rich machine. The on board fx there are tremendous on a machine like this.
Yes, the onboard effects are great bonus and a rare feature on a multitrack cassette recorder.
Love it!
Thanks, much appreciated!
What kind of guitar is that
It’s a spider cone dobro style resonator guitar.
Sounds like the intro to Breaking Bad
Yes it does have a similar feel. 👍
Dang! That slide sounds super cool!!!!😊
Glad you like it, this is one of my homemade slide guitars! 👍🙏
@@wehappyfewmusic it really does sound great! The atmosphere you are playing in from your videos makes them even better. 😊
@@pctips4all Cheers for the positive feedback! I do enjoy playing in my little studio. 😊

Awesome bud as always!
Thanks man, much appreciated!
cool sound!
Glad you like the sound, Chicken Bone John makes some great guitars!
Very good
Many thanks 🙏
I wish i knew how to tune and play like this god the blues i love it
You should give it a go as 3 string guitars are pretty easy to play. I think I was in open G here which is G D G.
No smoking! Use the sigarbox for slide blues!👍😁
Too right, a far healthier use of them! 😀👍
think i watched this on loop for like 10 mins straight before i realized it was a "short"
Brilliant, that’s definitely gonna help my UA-cam stats! 🤩🙏
That was awesome!!!!
Much appreciated, we had a great time at this festival. 👍

Great tone.
Cheers Peter! 🙌
Wow, want want want😮
Thanks! They’re not to tricky to make if you’ve got a few tools and are great fun to play.
@@wehappyfewmusic it looks cool, you play so well, good times🌀
@@steveooooo4423that’s very kind of you, much appreciated! 🙏
Sounds like something that Led Zep would have put out in their early days. I can't think of the song, but maybe it sounds like one of their bass lines.
Oh cool, I do enjoy a bit of Led Zeppelin so it’s quite possible I’ve absorbed some riffs along the way.
Sounds awesome!😎😎😎
Much appreciated! 🙌👌
Great tone..!!!!!!
Many thanks! 🙏
So what tuning is that?
It’s open D which is D A D F# A D (low to high strings).
@@wehappyfewmusic awesome, thank you. I appreciate your replies and love your music 🙏
“Get your ford dumptruck right now and open a big fat can of whoop ass, because what the south is, is what America is” Some commercial, probably
😅
Brilliant
Thanks very much!
What's the guitar tuning?
I’m in open D here.
I like your results!
Thanks very much for checking out the video!
The question is, should I necessarily record on tape? If I record, couldn't I send the output to the daw in real time?
Yes you could record directly to a DAW instead, it depends if you want to keep things analog or not.
The info about cassette decks can be bettered a LOT when considering some models. For example, the Yamaha K-1020 with dbx noise reduction and metal tape has a frequency response of 20Hz to 23kHz and 95dB signal to noise ratio, a dynamic range of 90dB, with Wow & Flutter of 0.03%WRMS. Another Yamaha, the K-2000 has FR 20-24k Hz, S/N ratio 108dB and W&F 0.02%WRMS. And there is a selected list of other models/brands at this level of technical specifications. I use VHS to record music, in conjunction with a Sansui AV-77 AV processor, which providides DBX noise reduction and a 30dB increase in S/N ratio and dynamic range. The result is fantastic
Thanks for this information and that’s very impressive specs!
